Human beings learn in different ways and yet the brain is the central organ for learning regardless of the individual’s age, gender, social background or culture. What is the same for all humans when learning and what are the differences? In this online module, we explore the fascinating insights of neurology and learn how learning works.

Understanding the cognitive processes that shape participants’ learning enables trainers to plan appropriate methodologies for training success. You will get to know state-of-the-art theories of learning and psychology to explain what actually happens to the brain when participants learn.

This online module addresses the highly complex wiring within the brain, which influences how individual participants perceive the information that is presented to them during training. Of course, sometimes training is not just about learning, but about unlearning information. This requires substantial rewiring of the brain to change the unconscious associations that participants may make between pieces of information.

Many theoretical models exist about learning processes and are promoted by different organizations as valuable training tools. We critically appraise various common models: NLP, transaction analysis, theme-centered interaction and social learning, and the application of these to your training.

Participants who complete this module will gain an understanding of the neurological changes that learning causes and how these changes differ according to age, the psychology of learning and the application of different learning models to effective and successful training. You will gain knowledge that is central to your professional development as a trainer who understands the needs and perspectives of your participants and can react appropriately to ensure a safe and positive learning experience for all.
